PH levels have a significant effect on the absorption rates of certain nutrients and on micro-organisms present in the substrate. For this reason, knowing about the pH levels of your growing medium and adjusting nutrient pH levels accordingly is an essential part of indoor growing. The Bluelab Soil pH Pen represents the quickest and easiest way to gain highly accurate information about the acidity or alkalinity of your substrate. The unit itself has an LCD display, three buttons and a 10cm long probe. Around the probe sits a protective cover that also acts as a 'dibber' – when you want to use the Bluelab Soil pH Pen, drive the unit with the dibber still attached into the substrate to make a perfectly sized hole. The probe can then be lifted out and unsheathed, then placed back into the substrate, saving on wear and tear and extending its lifespan. Though this pH meter is marketed for soil, it will in fact work with almost any medium, and is every bit as useful for those who prefer to work with other media, such as coco coir. With the probe in place, simply press the 'power' button to activate the unit and wait for the readings to stabilize.
