Quick Overview

Hydroponic grow extraction systems can produce unwanted noise. Use an inline duct silencer to help reduce the sound from the fan. Tips: In addition to using a silencer, use acoustic ducting and fully stretch it out avoiding kinks and sharp bends in it - this will help a lot. In addition to that, using a quality acoustic fan and a fan-speed controller can help keep the wind noise down tremendously!

Details

In order to maintain an ideal grow-room environment, warm, moist air must either be treated or (as is generally the case) removed from the grow area altogether using a suitable extraction system. Unfortunately, this process generates unwanted noise, a lot of which is caused by the air as it moves over the ridged edges of your ducting. Using a silencer helps to direct the flow of air in a manner that lowers overall resistance levels, keeping your indoor garden as quiet as possible. Though these units are referred to as silencers, it should be noted that they will not completely silence your extraction system. They will, however, have a very positive effect on overall noise levels, particularly if used in conjunction with acoustic ducting. Fit the silencer directly to the outlet spigot of your extractor fan, ideally using a suitably sized fast clamp. The fast clamp provides a much more secure join than other methods. If the unit is not properly secured and comes loose from the rest of the extraction system, this will render your extraction system ineffective and cause all sorts of headaches. Fast clamps are the securest and most effective way to join the different parts of your extraction system. Keep the number of bends in the ducting as low as possible and plan the extraction route so that it is as short as possible. As previously mentioned, we also recommend using your silencer in conjuntion with acoustic ducting, in order to maximise its effectiveness.
